Marsden, John. Tomorrow, When the War Began. Seven Australian teenagers return from a trip to the outback to find that their homes are abandoned and must learn to survive in hiding while they figure out what has happened in their town. This is the first in a series of books about their adventures.
Obrien, Robert C. Z for Zachariah. A teenager girl thinks she is the only survivor after a holocaust, but she is relieved when she meets up with a man. Her relief is short-lived, however, when he turns out to be a tyrant and she must find a way to escape him.
Paulsen, Gary. Hatchet. Brian survives a plane crash, only to be trapped alone in the wilderness, where his only tool is a hatchet, and he must learn how to create shelter, find food, and stay alive.
Paulsen, Gary. The River. Following his successful survival in the wilderness, Brian is asked to demonstrate his survival techniques to a group of psychologist. Sequel to Hatchet.
Smelcer, John. The Trap. Johnny begins to worry because his grandfather Albert has yet to return from checking his traplines. Tension builds as in alternating chapters readers discover that Albert, caught in his own trap, is fighting for his life in the Alaskan wilderness and Johnny is unsure of how to react to his grandfather's lateness.
Stevenson, Robert Louis. Kidnapped. The adventures of David Balfour, who is kidnapped to prevent him from getting his inheritance, and Alan Breck, a fugitive swordsman, as they become involved in the Scottish struggle against English rule.
Stevenson, Robert Louis. Treasure Island. While going through the possessions of a deceased guest who owed them money, the mistress of the inn and her son find a treasure map that leads them to a pirate's fortune.
Taylor, Theodore. The Cay. When the freighter they are traveling on is torpedoed by a German sub during World War II, an adolescent white boy, who has been blinded, and an old black man are stranded on a tiny Caribbean island where the boy acquires a new kind of vision, courage, and compassion.
White, Andrea. Surviving Antarctica: Reality TV 2083. In the year 2083, five fourteen-year-olds who were deprived by chance of the opportunity to continue their educations reenact Scott's 1910-1913 expedition to the South Pole as contestants on a reality television show, secretly aided by a Department of Entertainment employee.

Krakauer, Jon. Into Thin Air. 796.522 KRA Krakauer survived a climb up Mount Everest that claimed the lives of 12 others and tells his story of adventure, survival, and sadness.
Bryson, Bill. A Walk in the Woods. 917.4044 BRY Although they voluntarily choose to hike the Appalachian Trail, Bryson and his partner, Stephen Katz, have many humorous (and some serious) lessons to teach about surviving an extremely long hike.
Krakauer, Jon. Into the Wild. 917.98 KRA Krakauer traces the path of Chris McCandless, a young man who abandoned his family fortune to pursue a life of solitude in the Alaskan wilderness.
Junger, Sebastian. The Perfect Storm. 974.4 JUN The heroic acts of the Coast Guard are recounted in this story of a 1991 storm that took the lives of 6 swordfishermen off the coast of Massachusetts. Although the fishers die, the Coast Guard succeeds in rescuing a group of sailors who are caught in the storm.
